Comprehensive Portfolio Polices and Procedures

The Instructional Technology/Internet-Based Education Specializations are supervised by an interdisciplinary group of faculty from different departments and colleges. The intent of these specializations is for recipients to have very high levels of technological literacy with respect to solving school, home, work-place, and community-based learning situations. For this reason, the participating faculty have identified a number of areas and skills germane to these literacies. These are expressed:

  • As part of the program of studies, each candidate will develop a personal plan for portfolio completion.
  • The plan and the final portfolio will address how the student's work demonstrates the program elements described in the Portfolio Elements and Outcomes document.
  • The portfolio represents all aspects of the program including course work, experiences and independent work.
  • At the time that the program of studies is approved, the supervisory committee will also approve a motion delineating how the portfolio will be reviewed and evaluated.
  • Progress with respect to this plan is reviewed annually by the advisor/mentor. Students will be responsible for updating and maintaining their portfolio for this review.
  • Opportunities for peer review and support will be provided.
  • Prior to or at the time of the doctoral comprehensive examination, a standing committee of instructional technology faculty will review the written/online portfolio and recommend acceptance to the advisor and supervisory committee. The standing committee utilizes a program-wide performance checklist to evaluate the portfolio.
  • The evaluating committee will maintains records that become a part of the evaluation of the Instructional Technology and Internet-Based Education programs.
  • Portfolios are managed so that faculty and students have access to the portfolios via log-in and authentication. In addition, students may choose to make portions of their work available to the public.
